This beautiful 1988 Mercedes has a full provenance and has been in the hands of a single owner from new. It has the advantage of a complete and unbroken service history and is maintained to a high standard. Garaged throughout its life, it has been lovingly cared for and carefully driven with only 119,000 miles on the clock.
Known by afficiandos affectionately as the ‘Cosworth’, the power heart of this model is the 2.3 litre 16 valve engine which is fitted with a light alloy cylinder head and twin overhead camshafts. There is electronic ignition, 5-speed manual gearbox and a special exhaust system, all of which assist in the engine’s ability to deliver an output of 136 kW (185 DIN/hp) at 6200/min with a top speed of 144 mph.

The range of options that are fitted to this particular vehicle comprise self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension, driver and front passenger electric seats, totally original alloy wheels including a full size original spare, ASB braking, ASD (locking differential), CD/radio four speaker system and tilt and slide sunroof. The central locking Scorpion (Mercedes Benz approved) category 1 alarm system features automatic window and sunroof closure for extra convenience and security.

All electric windows are functional.

As the images clearly show, this vehicle is entirely original with no modifications whatsoever and the purchase price in 1988 was £30,297. It was sold to us by Arlington of Bedford (now Mercedes Benz of Bedford) on 1st September 1988 and the original receipt is available.

Quite recently all four shock absorbers have been replaced, including a substantial overhaul of the self-levelling suspension which is fully operational. The thrust bearing and clutch were replaced several years ago and so the vehicle is in tip-top mechanical condition. Even the original toolkit, spare wheel, first aid kit and jack remain intact.

Although we are prepared to allow bona fide prospective purchasers a ‘test’ drive, this will only be possible on presentation of evidence of fully comprehensive insurance and a full UK driving licence. All such test drives will be accompanied.

The condition, appearance and performance of the vehicle demand a sale price of £6,900 and this will be a cash only sale.
